Nutrition for Fertility (Part Two)January 27, 2018
Eating fertility foods is one of a number of natural ways to increase fertility. Fertility foods will not only increase fertility but will also nurture the health of your baby from the get go.
So we have created a list of 7 Fertility Foods out there that you should be eating:
- Green, Leafy (And Colourful) Vegetables:
Include delicious greens to your diet, such as spinach, kale, cabbage, rocket, spinach and brussel sprouts. Green veggies not only boost your immune system, but they contain folic acid, helpful in the production of red blood cells and ovulation. Folic acid also promotes a healthy nervous system, and prevents deficiencies in the fetus after conception. It’s also extremely important for healthy sperm production.
Make sure you also include coloured veggies such as carrots, pumpkins, and squash. These have beta-carotene which is a healthy source of Vitamin A. This vitamin is essential for maintaining healthy tissues in the reproductive organs.
- Nuts & Seeds:
Walnuts, almonds, pecans and all seeds such as sunflower and pumpkin seeds are fabulous fertility boosters. The have essential fatty acids and Vitamin E which are essential in the production of healthy cells. Peanuts on the other hand are not recommended for fertility. This is because peanut butter contains contains oxalate which combines with calcium to form calcium oxalate and prevent its absorption and calcium is essential for your baby to develop and grow.
- Citrus Fruits:
All citrus fruits are rich in Vitamin C. Vitamin C prevents sperm clumping. It also enhances ovulation and release of the egg from ovaries.
Pineapples are the best known natural source of Manganese. Manganese assists the body in triggering the production of reproductive hormones. Low levels of manganese are associated with difficulty conceiving. Pineapples are also great for digestion.
- Oily Fish:
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to the body and assist hormone production. Sperm is pretty much made up of fatty acids as is the embryo’s nervous system, so this fertility food is awesome!
Red chillies increase blood flow. Chillies also stimulate your endorphins (happy hormones), which increases the chances of conception.
- Dark Chocolate:
Dark chocolate is divine. Full stop. But it also has terrific benefits for fertility. Chocolate contains flavonoids and arginine which elevates your mood and promotes blood flow to the uterus and ovaries.
Fertility boosting foods should be eaten as close to their natural form as possible. Consume fresh, unprocessed, grass-fed organic foods, and avoid refined sugars completely.
